Mountain Climber

It's evident by now that our little Pants is going to be the brains of the operation.  She's going to annoy teachers, probably have my eyesight so she'll have glasses by 1st grade, and come up with brilliant excuses to miss gym class.

Tank, on the other hand, it seems that he will bring the brawn.  He is very interested in climbing already and dude can barely crawl. He's probably going to have to transition to toddler bed at the same time as his sister because he's going to climb up the sides of his crib.

His journey summiting his couch:

No tears were shed; he actually looked rather pleased with himself.  Anyone concerned about safety, I moved the table over and both his father and I were there, hands at the ready to make sure he did not injure himself.

And last week we were having dinner at a friend's house.  I put him in front of those chairs with some toys and a great view of the ceiling fan.  A few minutes later, I found this:

He's totally off the ground on the table's bottom shelf and he did that 100% on his own.  I think we're in trouble.  But also in for a lot of fun . . .

The Artist Within

I recently had a girls night out with 2 fabulous ladies to Social Paintbrush.  It's a painting class of sorts.  Each night they have a particular painting that the group is going to learn how to create. They give you the paint, brushes & canvas and step by step instruction.

This was the painting we chose to go to:

"My Sun, My Tree"
That is the image on the calendar when we picked what class to go to.  The sample painting we had for reference was slightly different.

I will admit I was terrified!  I'm not artistic at all.  I can imagine great things.  I can watch someone else draw them and try to do it myself.  But it looks awful.  In college I took an elective in theatre scenery painting.  The teacher was cool, but pretty much my projects were met mostly with "aww honey.  you tried real hard".  But I thought it would be fun regardless of what the end product was, and I was right!

So I captured my progress photographically:

And the end result is . . .

I'm super proud of it!  I actually want to hang it somewhere in the house.  And I kind of want to do more.  I think that it would make a really fun date night, although I don't know what we'd do with 2 of the same picture.  I guess they do couples nights where you each paint half of an overall painting.  Which would be cool, but also T is actually talented artistically, so I'm not sure how that would go.  I suppose in a couple years we could say it did it with one of the kids, haha.

Bookworm II

It's well established by now that Pants loves books.  Loves being read to and "reading" them on her own. I was afraid that maybe my little Tank would not be so into them.  He has not been read to anywhere close to as often as she was.  I mean, he still hears me read to his sister, but that's always when he's content with something else.  And I'm ashamed to admit it, but he has only had a bedtime story a handful of times.

It seems lately that he actually likes books.  Currently, mostly for eating, haha, but he looks at them, too!   We still don't sit down and read together as much as we should, and I'm not sure if he really likes that.  But he enjoys scoot-crawling to them and opening them.

what is this 'book' you speak of?

 and how does it work?

I think I got it now!

Hi, everyone :)

Valentines fail

So we all know this already, but here's another friendly reminder that I am the worst.

We get pictures taken of the kids, order prints to mail to our loved one who we know would want them.  And then it doesn't happen.  I still have Christmas presents in my closet I never got to the post office with.  So since B's 6 month pictures were taken in early February, I thought: Genius! We'll order valentines instead of prints and send them to people like holiday cards.

They're still on my desk waiting to be addressed.  In fairness, the original plan was to get them from the portrait studio, BUT that experience was awful and the print review person wasn't helpful at all.  Plus their card designs weren't what I wanted.  So I made my own through snapfish.  I even paid extra for fast shipping.  But it took them longer than expected to "process" the order and they didn't come until Feb 13.

My parents had just arrived for the long weekend and I didn't do it right away.  Under the mindset of, well no one will get these by tomorrow anyway, so I'll get them done in a couple days.  Bad idea, self.  I attempted to send them 2 weeks ago, but I needed to get a lot of addresses and find all the old prints for people.  Again, I got sidetracked.  The problem is every time I start to do it when the kids are awake, they're never content alone for long enough that I can finish.  And by the time they are FINALLY in bed for the day, I don't want to do anything but have a glass of wine and entertain myself with a book or the TV before going to bed and doing it all over again.

Then all of a sudden it's March and well past the appropriate time frame to randomly send valentines to people.  That's what they look like. Who wants one still?  (best if you message me your address on facebook if you do)
